Sideburns and Stealing: Lupin III, The World's Greatest Thief

Stealing. Good or bad? In the Bible, the Eighth Commandment says, "Thou shall not steal." But what if you're just so very good at it? As good as say, Lupin III? In 1967, Kazuhiko Katō, authoring manga under the peculiar pen name Monkey Punch, concieved of a character who was the grandson of the author Maurice Leblanc's Arsène Lupin. His manga, Lupin III, influenced by the novels and the art styles of Mad Magazine's Mort Drucker and Sergio Aragonés, ran in Weekly Manga Action magazine and became extremely popular. It eventually spawned numerous animated features, including three television series, five theatrical animated films, a live-action movie, and several television specials, which have become an annual Japanese television tradition. What is the appeal of this franchise? What is it that keeps Lupin III on the mind of the Japanese?

OR.net down

... though, it's not because of anything I did.

It seems my webhost, 250free.com, is having a bit of a seizure today. So, until they're back up, the strips (which, yeah, I know, nobody reads anymore... shut up already!) will be pretty much down.

Except for the most recent stuff, which I've gone ahead and posted on my Comcast space: http://home.comcast.net/~otakurevolution/

Hopefully, this'll prove to be a temporary problem.

Playmobil's Security Checkpoint

My girlfriend sent me a link to this rather odd offering from Playmobil... That's right. Playmobil has made a set depicting the romping grounds of authority crazed TSA employees. The set comes complete with a conveyor X-ray machine and metal detector. Everything a small child* needs to fantasize his afternoon away. Unfortunately points are lost due to the lack of accuracy. No trashcans full of water bottles? Whatever will employees fit over?

POPULATION: None

It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not everyone of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.

Fall 2008: Anime I'm Following

This season is all about three shows for me: Mobile Suit Gundam 00's second season, Casshern Sins, and Tytania.

Gundam 00's second season aired its first episode this past Saturday in Japan. Menclave and Shinsen are both subbing it. After the defeat of Celestial Being at the end of the first season and the forming of the Federation, our plucky Gundam-obsessed Arab hero, Setsuna F. Seiei disappeared, only to return to fight the Titans-like A-Laws. It seems like the there's also another group opposing the Federation, which Marina's former assistant Shirin is part of. Saji Crossroads, the put-upon loser from the first season is bullied by the A-Laws and put into a forced labor camp, only to be rescued by Setsuna, who is himself rescued by Vowels... er, Tieria Erde, in his new Gundam. Setsuna recieves his mandatory mid-show upgrade, the Gundam 00, and then goes to recruit Neil's twin brother Lyle to be the new Lockon Stratos.

Audio: English: The Greatest Anime Dubs

If you're an anime fan, chances are you have an opinion on English dubs. When I started out as a fan, I was only watching anime on American television, so everything was dubbed. When I began collecting anime, on VHS tapes, it was rare to come across one with Japanese audio and English subtitles, and you almost prized those for their rarity. Still, English dubs were mostly the only way to go, and you were glad to have them in those days, because after all, you didn't want things like words on the bottom of the screen to get in the way of your favorite Japanese cartoon.

11 Features Snow Leopard Needs To Have

With the eventual release of Apple's OSX "Snow Leopard" there are a few things I'd like to see added along the the current slurry of performance updates. Before I get into the features I believe it'd be in best interest to mention where I'm coming from with these suggestions. I'm not an Apple fanboy (or Microsoft/Linux fanboys for that matter) and feel that of the three main OS"s out there each has it's pros and cons. I got my first Mac (a beautiful 24in iMac which I adore) just over 7 months ago and things, for the most part, have been good since. I figured I know nothing about OSX so I might as well be a big geek, get one, and see how things go. Better to know multiple systems than work on a single one anyway. I still use my windows laptops often, both running XP. I used Vista for a while when it first came out, in a machine that wasn't the least bit equipped to run it, only to go back to XP later.
