Episode 2, "Glorio"
*****SPOILERS*****
Synopsis: Goku and his allies are dumbfounded at being transformed into children. An irate Gomah, upset that Shenron only granted him one wish, decides to kidnap the baby Dende. Goku, Piccolo, Kaioshin, and Kibito go to Kami's Temple, where Popo explains what ocurred. Kibito brings an old spaceship that could be used to traverse the barrier into the Demon Realm, but it needs work, which Bulma starts on. Goku visits Karin and Kamesennin, looking for his Nyoibo, which he retrieves from the latter. A ship like Gomah's lands at Kami's Temple and a person named Glorio emerges, requesting that Goku defeat Gomah. Goku and Kaioshin take Glorio's ship with him and they fly off to the Demon Realm.
Comments:
So everybody's turned into children. Well, their minds haven't gone back to childhood, just their bodies, so it's more like they've shrunk, rather than become children, as Kuririn points out. This has messed with the way they can control their bodies, because they're not used to the weight and movement of their smaller bodies. This is why Goku and Piccolo have such a problem with flying at first. Maybe Goku should have taken Karin's advice and used the Kinto'un.
My favorite bit is that Muten Roshi is thrilled about being young again. He's trying himself out in front of a mirror as soon as he gets home to Kame House (how'd he get back so fast?). At least he isn't trying out perving on girls. Yet. You never know with a guy like Roshi. And hey! Because of him, the Nyoibo is back in play.
Ah, Nyoibo. It's been a long while. Sure, you see it in the early movies (or at least in Dead Zone, I don't remember if it's used in World's Strongest or Tree of Might), but other than that, when do you see it? Never, because it was supposed to have been put between Karin's Tower and Kami's Temple/look out. But now that nobody really climbs the tower anymore, Goku is free to use it to take on enemies again.
I have a bit of a question, though. Just what, at this point, are the rules for the Dragon Balls? Since when is three wishes just for longtime users? If anything, they should get fewer wishes because they already get enough wishes granted as it is. Is Shenron just being cheeky here with Gomah because he used the Dragon Balls when they were intended to be resting? I think that would have been a better explanation, to be honest.
Speaking of Dragon Balls, why can't the gang just go to Namek and ask Mouri to gather their Dragon Balls so they can wish themselves all back to normal again? It's not clear yet whether or not Goku can use Instantaneous Movement in his current form, but Kaioshin and Kibito can clearly use their teleportation powers, so why not take advantage of it and go to Namek? They can use Porunga to also wish for Gomah to be teleported to them and then just beat him down right there.
But I guess we wouldn't have a plot, now would we? I hope something explains why Namek can't be contacted about all this.
Bulma truly is a genius, isn't she? She only has to take a quick look at the inside of Glorio's ship and her ability to fix Kaioshin's ship is enlarged. I hope she hurries up, because I want to see more Chibi Vegeta, who totally could have fit in Glorio's ship. But it's not that surprising that Bulma is so smart, just look at the Jaco the Galactric Patrolman manga, early Dragon Ball, and the Future Trunks timeline. Becoming a child again doesn't hamper her at all.
I can't really say much about Glorio himself, however, because even though the episode is named after him, we don't really learn much about him, other than he was requested by somebody to go retrieve Goku to defeat Gomah. But it's possible Glorio wants Gomah defeated for his own reasons. After all, he is from the Demon Realm, and while I hate to paint with a broad brush, everybody from there seems to have their own, somewhat sinister, motivations.
Speaking of people from the Demon Realm, Arinsu isn't seen in this episode, but I think she's doing something on her own, possibly involving Gohan, who hasn't made an appearance yet. It's just a wild theory, though.
I'm loving the OP and ED, especially the GT-ish visuals of the ED and the bird in tribute to Toriyama at the end. We miss you, Toriyama-san.
