Episode 4, "Chatty"
*****SPOILERS*****
Synopsis: With Glorio's plane stolen, the trio have no choice but to hoof it to their destination. After a while, they come upon a shop where they refresh and buy specialty bugs. Glorio, Kaioshin, and Goku then take a "sky seed" into the air. They abandon it before it crashes. Goku seemingly convinces Glorio that the best course of action is to beat the Tamagamis and obtain the Demon Realm's Dragon Balls. The three come upon a village where King Gomah's subordinates are demanding payment from the poor citizens. When a small villager tries to stop them and fails, Goku steps in, defeating the henchmen with his Nyoibo. Glorio laments that now they're fugitives. The small hero reveals how they really look, which is a young girl.
Comments:
Other people have made this observation, so it's hardly original, but I was noticing how Dragon Ball Daima is resembling a JRPG more and more as it goes along. We have a quest with a small party (that's picking up new party members), villages in various states, status refreshment spots/save spots, healing items, and strange transportation methods (sky seed). Pair that with the adventurous atmosphere, the Dragon Quest-like character designs, and the music, and it's almost perfectly replicating a JRPG. Which is amusing, because, in some ways, so was Dragon Ball GT (the GT's Japanese BGM was very JRPG-like), at least for a while. I think it would be amusing if this ends up a video game.
The specialty bugs are interesting. Apparently there's one that can cause fusion, which I'm sure will come in handy sometime down the road, perhaps when Vegeta has caught up to our trio (I can imagine he'll just threaten Lord Warp to gain access to the Demon Realm). Like I said before, there's also a medical bug for healing, much like the senzu beans of yore. Honestly, I don't know why Goku didn't take a bunch of senzu before he headed off with Glorio. Or maybe take Kibito or Buu, who both have healing power, instead of useless Kaioshin. Ah well. I just want to see Vegetto or Gogeta in the Demon Realm and I'm pretty sure we're going to get that. But who knows? Maybe Goku will fuse with somebody else entirely.
Glorio was awfully quick to be convinced that getting the Demon Realm Dragon Balls is the best chance they have to reverse their fortunes. If they wanted to use a different set of Dragon Balls, they could have used, you know, the NAMEKIAN DRAGON BALLS. They wouldn't have had to fight Tamagamis for that. But Goku likes making things difficult, so it's no huge shock that he's more than pleased at the prospect of fighting for the Dragon Balls. Maybe he'll gain the EXP he needs to take on Gomah. Stock up on Phoenix Downs, Goku!
But my real point about this plot point is that Glorio might have intentionally steered Goku in the mental direction he wanted him in by mentioning the Tamagamis. I'm still uncertain about Glorio and his motivations. It's hard to read the guy.
We get an excellent fight scene in this episode where Goku wields his Nyoibo for the first time in a long while. The animation and energy of the situation is dynamic and well done. I wanted to cheer Goku on as he took down Gomah's soldiers. But I also got the feeling Goku was kind of just playing around with his opponents. He clearly wasn't struggling at all and showed a bit of cheekiness as he took them on.
According to material given before this series premiered, Panzy is the name of the girl at the end, and also the name of the next episode. So we'll have to wait and see what kind of party member she'll turn out to be next week.
