I've decided to add all of the Case Closed DVDs that have been released to date into my Netflix queue... now, I just have to send back the friggin' disc I've had out since before my last California trip! >_<

Anyway, I've watch hundreds of Detective Conan episodes thus far (several which haven't been turned into "Case Closed" episodes yet). It's a fun show, though it gets a tad predictable.
Apparently, in Japan, there are hundreds of European style castles.
Why didn't he just shoot the
Why didn't he just shoot the guy? It would been a lot easier. And they wouldn't have to use a Speed reference.

Too risky to shoot him. Shooting her is more unexpected, jarring to the person taking her hostage, and the hostage becomes useless without dying.

That doesn't make any sense. If he'd have shot him, it'd be over. If he'd have missed and shot her then he could have still claimed it was his plan.
The guy could have used
The guy could have used Rachel as a fucking meat shield. Shooting the girl is the last thing he expected and in his confusion they took him down. It's a risky method, too, mind you, but less risky than the alternative.

The guy was already using her as a meat shield, and doing such a piss poor job at it too. Shooting her was a lot more risky than just shooting him in the face outright.
