Episode 1, "Conspiracy"

*****SPOILERS*****

Synopsis: In the Demon Realm, a pair of figures, the new king Gomah, and his subordinate Dagasu, watch the fight against Babidi and Buu unfold, astonished mortals could defeat them. Seeing that they had the help of the Dragon Balls, Gomah plots to transform Goku and the gang into children to prevent them from getting in his way. He enlists the help of an elderly Namekian, Neva, who comes along with him to Earth to gather and reactivate the Dragon Balls from their slumber in between wishes. Gomah has Shenron summoned, and makes his wish, causing all those who fought against Buu to be turned into kids.

Akira Toriyama, creator of manga like Dr. Slump, Dragon Ball, and Sand Land, sadly passed away on March 1, 2024. He left behind a legacy of colorful work, worlds of wonder that continues to impact people the world over. Since I review anime, and not manga, I wanted to pay tribute to Toriyama in a way that reflected his own personal efforts, so I chose a Dragon Ball Z movie that he actually had influence over, Battle of Gods, whose story he constructed. Of course, I also mentioned his work in video games.

I thought I'd get back to the "storyline", or bookend material, this month, because the videos are pretty short. I know you probably just skip to the review portion (I'm glad anyone even bothers with that much), but I like doing this sort of thing now and then, because it allows me to play with more sprites. I love playing with my (and Rob's) sprites!
 
I have toyed with ideas I mentioned here about a JoJo's Bizarre Adventure fanfic, but I feel like I'm getting a little too old to be writing anime fanfics. And yeah, I was going to do a separate video series, aside from Otaku Evolution, on the DC animated films that come out straight to DVD/Blu-Ray. I had a lot of things ready for it, too, like a rating system for each feature. I somehow just never got to it. Should I still do it? Eh.

Also, Dragon Ball: Mystical Adventure, folks. It's a Dragon Ball movie. With Arale in it!

Did all of those Freeza soldiers really fit into that one ship? I hope Goku and the gang have a good sense to KEEP the ship when they've defeated Freeza  this time. Trunks blew up the last one, and that was a free fucking spaceship they could have used!

PART I: The Preamble

Wow, that looks, moves, and sounds fucking gorgeous. Guaranteed purchase from me when we get it over here. Unf. The only problem I have is that there's a weird glare, an over saturation of color, I think. It can be a little overwhelming.

Premise: Some God of Destruction awakens from a long sleep, discovers someone has defeated Freeza, and decides the universe needs balance (which I guess Freeza was providing by being a dick?) and challenges Goku. Despite the participation of Akira Toriyama himself in the development of this new movie, the same DBZ formula is likely to follow.

I wonder how Kaio got a new planet. The Kaioshins, perhaps? 

The first person to complain about Goku's voice, I shall stab that person in their very soul. (Though to be honest, the Kamehameha in the end isn't Nozawa's best work.)
