Batman & Robin Eternal #12 Review

Ooooh aah, mother, should I build the wall?

A dark revelation shakes the foundation of Grayson and he must chasten as the plot hastens without Tim or Jason. It’s the twelfth issue of DC’s weekly Batman chronicle, and my much delayed review covers an issue where we see the Sculptor’s origin story and Batman make a decision that shocks Dick to his core. Could it be that Batman really agreed to Mother’s idea, and what’s more, to carry it out himself? Well, probably not, but it will look like it for a while, I think. read more

Otaku Evolution Episode 58 – Year End English Dub Review II

Otaku Evolution Episode 58 – Year End English… by elliott-morbell

2015 ends, without any pesky Third Impacts, and a bare minimum of Tang. But there’s plenty going on in the season finale of Otaku Evolution, where Penguin Truth takes on a variety of anime English dubs, including Lupin, Gundam, Golgo, Death Note, and more!

Batman & Robin Eternal #11 Review

I have to admit, this is the best comic cover I’ve seen in a while. It’s the perfect pyschedelic for this issue.

No time to unwind, there’s a trip into the mind, and once you’re there you’ll find, Harp and Cass are entwined, but for now, nevermind, the past is so unkind, and before the truth’s defined, Bluebird’s trip is resigned and Dick’s next, as he’s inclined. Scrambled brains and dozens slain in the eleventh entry in DC’s current weekly Batman chronicle. The new continuity’s Cassandra origin is told (and it seems mostly the same, but taken up a few levels in horror), we get some not-so-subtle clues that she ties into Harper’s backstory, and Dick is desperate to know what Batman did all those years ago (as am I). So let’s take this mind trip, because it’s a huge step up from that last stinking issue. read more

Otaku Evolution Episode 57 – The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya

Otaku Evolution Episode 57 – The Disappearance… by elliott-morbell

My second annual Christmas offering is my longest episode yet, covering the Haruhi movie, and featuring a special holiday advertisment for Red Ribbon Beer and an AMV. Join me, will you, as I look at this sizable anime film that takes main protagonist Kyon both to a parallel reality and back in time to prevent it from ocurring! It’s the only other anime Christmas-related anime I could thing of (other than Sailor Moon S: The Movie and the undubbed Tokyo Godfathers), and being a movie I enjoy, and with the fact I reviewed both seasons of the show this year, I thought, yeah, sure, let’s do this! So pour yourself a cup of eggnog (or two, or nine), stir it with a candy cane, and park yourself and a laptop in front of a roaring fire (preferably in a fireplace) to watch the penultimate episode of this season of Otaku Evolution! read more

Batman & Robin Eternal #10 Review

This issue wounds me, too, Batman.

Tim has a bad trip, in the past Dick flips, Harper drips, and the quality slips in this tenth episode of DC’s weekly Batman catastrophe. There’s a lot of combat in the St. Dumas cathedral, Jean-Paul Valley has terrible hair, Jason uses shark repellent, we meet that lady we saw with Mother some issues ago, and Bruce does his patented “You’re a loose cannon, Robin!” speech. The artwork may be decent, but this issue might be the first truly bad entry into this series, because with all that’s going on, a lot of it is just paint-by-numbers filler. I think I’ve had more fun in actual churches. read more

Batman & Robin Eternal #9 Review

Oh shit, now Bane’s punching the wall of reality! Somebody alert Donna Troy!

The nineties are back as Bane attacks, and how will you react to one more maniac? It’s the ninth issue of DC’s increasingly character stacked weekly Batman phenomenon. Tim and Jason, who play well off each other, infiltrate the St. Dumas cathedral with an added guest, we learn a little more about Harper’s background at the same time Dick does, and a flashback reveals that Mother is really in the know, and not at all impressed with Batman’s mission. And finally, in a not-that-surprising ending, a character orphaned by the new continuity returns! Now if only we could get Denny O’Neil on a new book for him. read more

Batman & Robin Eternal #8 Review

Mother, do you think they’ll drop the Bat?

Things get blacker, as the ballerina attackers aren’t performing Nutcracker, but Tim and Jason aren’t slackers, as they’re trackers of Mother’s backers. All of this and a hint of avenging angels to come in the eighth issue of DC’s weekly Batman escapade. Dick comes face to face with Mother herself, who claims to have created a Robin for Batman, and won’t reveal which one. Harper teams up with Cassandra, some assassins have caring mamas who will bonk you on the head if you kick their baby’s ass, and two Robins take the pulpit as the story drags, but at least it’s pretty focused. read more
