Fullmetal Alchemist – Episode 49 Review

Episode 49, "The Other Side Of The Gate"

*****SPOILERS*****

Synopsis: King Bradley returns home with a birthday gift for his son, Selim. Meanwhile, Envy admits to the captured Alphonse that he’s only in on Dante’s plan is to make humans suffer. Edward meets the Tringham brothers at a church (the same one Dante led Rose into). Russell mentions that when his father was working in Central he learned about a secret entrance to an underground laboratory. Edward enters the passage in the church. Edward soon finds himself in a large underground chamber with a town there. Edward arrives in Dante’s lair, where he sees Rose. When Dante arrives, Edward is quick to recognize it’s Dante instead of Lyra and what she’s up to. She scoffs at the idea of "Equivalent Exchange", angering Edward. Then using Rose’s baby, she sends Edward beyond the Gate as she did his father. Ed wakes up somewhere, and notices he has two arms of flesh. He also runs into Hohenheim. He is shocked to find he’s in an unfamiliar city, with zeppelins bombing. read more

Fullmetal Alchemist – Episode 48 Review

Episode 48, "Goodbye"

Synopsis: In the North, soldiers begin to question the delay in action. Armstrong announces that they will revolt against Central. Back in the warehouse, Sloth dissolves away, burning Wrath, who seperates from her. Sloth fades away. A Winry-disguised Envy appears and captures Alphonse, dismissing Wrath who wants to bring Sloth back with the Stone, and leaving. A devastated Wrath attacks Edward, but stops when Izumi appears. Wrath runs off. The Tringham brothers appear in Central, but get arrested when Russell impersonates Ed again. Ed decides to go after Fuhrer King Bradley next, as he’s the only one he knows the location of. North, Armstrong and Roy’s group (with Havoc and Feury disguised as Mustang and Hawkeye) have difficulty with the other troops. Back in Central, Roy and Riza make plans and Maria Ross and Denny Brosh visit the Tringham brothers in their prison. Edward and Izumi are held up at Central HQ after realizing that Bradley went home early for his child’s birthday. They encounter the Tringham brothers, working alongside Ross and Brosh. The Tringhams pass along something from their father’s notes. However, Frank Archer bursts in, apparently having been made part mechanical. Edward leaves while Izumi and the others hold Archer off. Edward encounters Roy and Riza, and gets in the car with them. Ed and Roy discuss their beliefs, admitting there are bigger things than their own desires. They part ways. read more

Fullmetal Alchemist – Episode 47 Review

Episode 47, "Sealing the Homunculus"

Synopsis: Sloth uses Alphonse’s memories of his mother to try to get his cooperation. Tucker wants to try using the Stone again, but Sloth refuses him. Edward arrives at the factory. He engages Sloth in combat, but his brother objects. He manages to get Sloth trapped in an alchemy array (carved by Lust with her claws) using a piece of his mother to immobilize her. Lust claims that she has memories of the woman she was intended to come back. Alphonse gets rid of the piece of his mother despite his brother’s objections. Lust attacks Sloth, hoping to finish her off, while Ed goes to retrieve the piece of his mom. However, he runs into Wrath who absorbs the piece. Lust does battle with Wrath again, while Sloth manipulates Al from inside of him. Working together, Ed and Al remove her from Al. Wrath traps Lust in the alchemy array and kills her. Sloth recalls her memories of being born and how she was given form by being fed lesser stones. She claims to want to kill the brothers to prove she isn’t Trisha Elric. Wrath combines himself with Sloth, but as the piece of Trisha is in him, she is immobilized, and unable to seperate from her, Wrath can’t prevent Edward from finishing Sloth off. Edward transmutes Sloth’s liquid body into ethanol and she begins to dissolve at room temperature. read more

Fullmetal Alchemist – Episode 47 Review

Episode 46, "Human Transmutation"


*****SPOILERS*****

Synopsis: Tucker takes Alphonse into the basement of the factory where he’s been trying to bring back Nina. He requests that Alphonse let him use the Philosopher’s Stone, but Alphonse reveals his hesitance, since he is the Stone. At Dante’s estate, Izumi provides evidence that Hohenheim and Dante had once been lovers, 400 years earlier. Roy Mustang and Alex Louis Armstrong, now promoted, are sent North. Fuhrer King Bradley takes a secret elevator to Dante’s lair, where Envy appears, angered by missing the chance to kill Hohenheim. In exchange for information, Alphonse allows Tucker to use the Philosopher’s Stone to bring to life his Nina chimera. Edward is confronted by Lust and Wrath, trying to use Scar’s locket to immobilize Lust. Lust betrays Wrath, however, wanting Edward to make her into a human with the Stone. The two make their way to the factory. Tucker’s Nina chimera is made, but is barely alive. Sloth arrives, pointing out that a piece of Al is now gone.

Fullmetal Alchemist – Episode 45 Review

Episode 45, "A Rotted Heart"

Synopsis: Dante reveals her and Hohenheim’s secret: they made a Philosopher’s Stone ages ago and used it to keep switching bodies to remain young and healthy. However, Hohenheim disappeared, so Dante had homunculi prepare situations for alchemists to create a Stone so she could continue living that way. Alphonse gets a phone call from Shou Tucker and hides it from Edward. Back in Central, Colonel Mustang stands before the military/government officials, claiming that the Elric brothers have gone to another country. He begins to ask pointed questions about Juliet Douglas. Edward and Alphonse disguise themselves for travel and take a train out of town. Hohenheim tells Dante that their souls are breaking down from constant body transfers and she says that she plans to use the Stone that Scar made inside Alphonse. Sloth appears, catching Hohenheim off guard and subdues him. Dante opens an alchemic Gate through Rose’s baby and sends Hohenheim through it. Ed and Al escape from the military and Ed goes to visit Izumi while Al decides to contact Tucker. Roy and Alex are assigned to go attack the North where the brothers are said to be, knowing that it’s a trap. Edward asks if Izumi has a piece of her dead child to use against the homunculus she made. Alphonse meets Tucker at a factory. read more

Fullmetal Alchemist – Episode 44 Review

Episode 44, "Hohenheim of Light"

Synopsis: Lyra leads Rose through a secret passage to a place where the homunculi are. The Elric brothers reveal that Bradley is a homunculus, but keep Al becoming the Philosopher’s Stone to themselves. When the group arrives back in Risembool, Edward angrily confronts his father, but Alphonse is happy to see him. Hohenheim overhears Edward talking about Dante, and is startled. Later, he discusses the homunculi with Roy, telling him they must be raised by an alchemist and that they can’t use alchemy because they come from beyond the Gate. Alphonse decides to spend the night with his father in a tent by their burnt out house. Alphonse tries to keep the homunculus in the shape of his mother a secret. Hohenheim disappears in the morning. Mustang leaves to send back the military and to confirm some things on his own, but orders Ed and Al to stay put. Talking to Sheska, Ed and Al learn of the death of Maes Hughes, enraging Edward. In the place where the homunculi are, Hohenheim arrives, recognizing Lyra as Dante. He uses his alchemy against Dante, telling her to stop manipulating his sons. Meanwhile, Edward digs something up from his mother’s grave. read more

Fullmetal Alchemist – Episode 43 Review

Episode 43, "The Stray Dog"

Synopsis: Winry and Sheska arrive in Risembool, spooked by a strange man, who follows them home. Pinako identifies him as Ed and Al’s father, Hohenheim. The brothers run through the desert, careful not to come in contact due to the Philosopher’s Stone in Al. Roy and his group are approached by Fuhrer King Bradley near the ruins of Lior and orders him to take them into custody. Maria Ross and Denny Brosh come to Risembool reporting to Winry that the military is searching for the brothers. Ed and Al go the back way to Risembool, through a forest, but encounter Mustang’s group, and are confronted by Mustang and Armstrong. Cornering the Elrics, Roy reveals that he was merely upset that they chose not to trust him. read more

Dragon Ball Kai – Episode 69 Review

Episode 69, "I Am Your Brother! The Monster Who Possesses Goku’s Ki"

*****SPOILERS*****

Synopsis: Piccolo encounters an insect-looking man in Gingertown who kills and absorb people’s life force and insides. Bizarrely, he has the ki of Freeza, his father, Goku, and others. Piccolo powers up with the power of Kami in him. Artificial Human 16 detects Piccolo and the the creature, but 17 doesn’t believe him. Cell uses one of Piccolo’s own attacks against him, which Piccolo deflects, and the two engage in close combat. The creature fires a Kamehameha which Piccolo narrowly avoids, only to be grabbed and stuck with Cell’s tail, which begins to drain him. The creature reveals that he is called Cell, an Artificial Human created by Dr. Gero. read more

Fullmetal Alchemist – Episode 42 Review

Episode 42, "His Name Is Unknown"

Synopsis: Kimbley dies after tranmuting Alphonse, who will slowly become explosive. Lust appears and Scar rejects her. Beneath the city, Edward battles both Sloth and Wrath, subduing them. Mustang, Hawkeye, and Armstrong confront Archer and Tucker on their collusion, but chimeras are released to attack them. Scar puts his brother’s locket on Alphonse to keep Lust from him and sacrifices his arm to transform Al into a different material. He plans to turn Al into the Philosopher’s Stone to save his life, but Lust dislikes the idea. Edward tells Rose and Lyra to scatter with the people of Lior and tell people about what happened. In town, Scar is shot several times when he throws himself in front of Lust to protect her, despite knowing she can heal. He reveals that he loved the woman she was made to bring back and resented his brother, but loved him and is jealous of the bond between the Elric brothers. Edward tries to prevent Archer from ordering his troops in, but the colonel goes ahead anyway. Walking out into the carving for the array, Scar lies down, dying as he ignites the transmutation. The charging soldiers are swallowed up by the light. Roy and his group defeat the chimeras, getting the news about the light in Lior. Edward finds Alphonse in the ruins of the town, and discovers his brother’s been turned into the Philosopher’s Stone. read more
