M61A5 Semovente MBT - Quick Look

Inspired by some great looking projects out there (such as Khai62's) I decided to dust off my kit and snap fit the parts. My first impression is that the kit was huge! Before opening the box (which I've had since Decmeber 2011 - I likely opened it up once back then said "woah it's huge" only to forget until now) I expected it to be about the size of my 1/144 Hildolfr. Guess I missed the part about this kit being 1/35 scale.

Above, that's a 1/100 scale MG Nemo and a 1/100 scale M1A1 Abrams tank for comparison.

Unless you're familair with the kit you may not notice that a lot of parts are actually missing. Many little ones such as rungs or attachment points are incredibly small and fragile and I didn't want to risk damaging them by assembling and dissasembling more than I have to. Also not on there are little tools used for adornment (shovel, axe, that type of thing) and a rope, that once painted, will look like a heavy steel cable. That's the plan at least.

The kit also comes with a bunch of thin metal pieces to be used for platforms and flair. Like the some of the other small pieces I'm holding off until absolutely needed. I'm pretty sure that if I were to bend one or otherwise mess it up all would be lost.

I haven't quite finalized a colour scheme just yet. I'm thinking of doing something fun and original but not compeltely unrealistic. Since there are a lot of great projects out there either doing desert tan, forest green, or a combination, I'm planning on going to blueish gray. Think German WWII tank style but with my own flair.
