The wraparound material this time covers some of the storyline I never completed in my Penguin Chronicles comic strip, involving Prince Cassus’ previous airship, the Gaizu, among other things. I don’t know why I’m so obsessed with completing it via these videos (as flashbacks), these are anime reviews, but I guess I just like toying around with the sprites and backgrounds. And the pre-opening credits bit is set to Shunsuke Kikuchi’s “M742”, or “The Suspensful Intermission”.

The Debate That Got Me Ejected From Kanzenshuu Forums: Is Gohan Out Of Character In The Cell Games?
"I don’t need this shit."
PART I: The Preamble
I’ve been a fan of the Dragon Ball franchise off and on since about the time Dragon Ball Z first broadcast in syndication in September of 1996. I didn’t immediately latch onto the show. It took a while. A friend of mine, Jon Oakes, who I used to play SNES with at his house (I had a Sega Genesis, and we alternated homes for playing), introduced me to the series, and I didn’t quite latch onto it until I started watching it on Cartoon Network’s Toonami block. When I started branching out into different types and titles of anime, I kept pushing the DB franchise back, exploring the more complex and compelling narratives of shows like Neon Genesis Evangelion, Serial Experiments Lain, and Cowboy Bebop. And after all, I would argue, the English version of Dragon Ball Z was so poorly done it was impossible to stomach the show except with subtitles, and I didn’t even have a DVD player until around 2001. By then, I looked at my DB fandom as an object of nostalgia at best and embarrassingly poor childhood taste at worst.

Colleen Clinkenbeard’s Super Saiyan 2 Gohan transformation
They could have chosen a better Kikuchi piece for this. And the sound effect of 16’s head being smooshed is delayed because of a sloppy edit. However, Clinkenbeard does an excellent job with the scream. And there’s none of that "16, you loved life" bullshit in the script.
Gohan’s SSJ2 Scream
For those interested in hearing what Colleen Clinkenbeard’s going to do with my favorite scene, here’s a sort of "preview". It’s how she does it in Ultimate Tenkaichi:
:
Pretty good. Too bad Willingham’s Cell is so awkward. I’m sure the scene will be better with Clarke’s Cell.

Anime Moment: Dragon Ball Z – Gohan’s Transformation Of Rage (SSJ2)
If this isn’t proof of the Japanese version’s superiority to you, then I recommend dying in a fire.
