Otaku Evolution Episode 171 – Dragon Ball Z: Bojack Unbound

The wraparound material this time covers some of the storyline I never completed in my Penguin Chronicles comic strip, involving Prince Cassus’ previous airship, the Gaizu, among other things. I don’t know why I’m so obsessed with completing it via these videos (as flashbacks), these are anime reviews, but I guess I just like toying around with the sprites and backgrounds. And the pre-opening credits bit is set to Shunsuke Kikuchi’s “M742”, or “The Suspensful Intermission”. read more

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods Clip

Wow, that looks, moves, and sounds fucking gorgeous. Guaranteed purchase from me when we get it over here. Unf. The only problem I have is that there’s a weird glare, an over saturation of color, I think. It can be a little overwhelming.

I wonder how Kaio got a new planet? This one seems bigger than the previous one. I know that in the notes for the movie, Toriyama said it was Birusu who made Kaio’s previous planet small to begin with because he destroyed most of it and Kaio had to reconstruct it. Now Kaio has a bigger planet and Birusu appears and wrecks it again? What a bad guest. read more

Voice Actor Comparison: Dragon Ball/Z/GT – Son Goku (Adult) (EDITED)

I’m just asking for trouble here, aren’t I? Here goes!

Original Video – More videos at TinyPic
My pick: Masako Nozawa
Reasoning: Nozawa’s adult Goku is a great evolution of her child Goku, retaining a very childlike wonder and charm to it, and Goku’s pureheartedness, with a brilliant delivery that brings the character to life. I like how there are all these little nuances to it. Kelamis captures some of Goku’s spirit in the same manner, but can be very inconsistent with his delivery, and of course doesn’t have those little nuances Nozawa does. Schemmel’s current Goku is pretty decent, but not what I prefer. It’s a huge improvement from his Z days.
Breakdown: Nozawa > Kelamis > Schemmel (in Kai) > Schemmel (in Z) = Corlett = Morrow = Ramirez = Yurk = Watson > Big Green Dub Voice read more
