Episode 68, "And So the Monster Makes its Move… Take Off! It’s the Super Namekian!" or "Your Local News"

Synopsis: Gohan spots the husk of a large insect-like creature. Weirded out, Bulma decides to leave the scene. Gohan and Trunks take off as well, wondering about the other time machine and the creature. On her way back to Capsule Corp, Bulma sees a news report and calls the Kame House, telling Kuririn to turn on the television. The news reports strange disappearances in Gingertown. The reporters are suddenly attacked. Frightened of what he sees below, Kami makes his decision to let Piccolo fuse with him, with Piccolo as the base. Piccolo fuses with Kami and then flies off. Trunks decides to go and investigate the happenings at Gingertown, too. Piccolo arrives there and encounters a strange green insect man.
Dragon Ball Kai – Episode 67 Review
Episode 67, "One More Time Machine?! Bulma Unveils a Mystery"

Synopsis: On the transport, Gohan asks about how the future will change if they manage to defeat the Artificial Humans. Trunks laments that really, nothing will change in his future, as it’s an alternate timeline. However, if he manages to find a way to destroy the Artificial Humans in this timeline, he can go back to his and at least destroy them there. He wonders how things turned out the way they did, but Chi-Chi expresses her gratefulness to him for coming, because it saved Goku’s life. Artificial Human 16 reveals to 17 and 18 the location of Goku’s house and they drive towards there. Kuririn calls Bulma to update her and she reports that people at Capsule Corporation found something that looks like Trunks’ time machine. Trunks, who has his time machine in capsule form, is bewildered. Trunks and Gohan meet with Bulma at the site, and find a time machine just like Trunks, which has been there for several years. They also find a strange eggshell inside of it.

Episode 66, "The Time has Come to Become One Again… Piccolo’s Decision for Ultimate Power!", or "What If God Was As Worthless As One Of Us?"

Synopsis: Kuririn revives his allies with senzu. Frustrated with his defeat, Vegeta flies off. Tenshinhan laments that even with Goku, he doubts they’d have been able to defeat the Artificial Humans. Piccolo flies off next, with Kuririn speculating that he plans to fuse with Kami to become more powerful. Kuririn and Trunks head to Goku’s house to move him to Roshi’s place. Piccolo arrives at Kami’s temple. Kami realizes why he’s come, but requests he be allowed to watch the situation on Earth a little longer before he makes his decision. Kuririn and Trunks arrive at Goku’s place, and along with Yamucha, Chi-Chi, and the still recovering Goku, head off to Kame House.
Dragon Ball Kai – Episode 65 Review
Episode 65, "A Cute Face, and Super Power?! No. 18 vs Vegeta ", or "The Most Action Kuririn’s Gotten In Years"

Synopsis: Vegeta engages Artificial Human 18 in combat. Things are fairly even for a while, but before he knows it, Vegeta is lagging behind, even as a Super Saiyan. Done playing around, 18 makes short work of Vegeta. Trunks and the others (minus Kuririn) jump in to help, but are easily taken out by the androids. Kuririn questions why they would follow Gero’s commands after having killed him, but to 17 it’s all a game. More bizarrely, 18 gives Kuririn a kiss goodbye, leaving the bald fighter confused.
Dragon Ball Kai – Episode 64 Review
Episode 64, "No. 17, No. 18, and…! The Artificial Humans Awaken"

Synopsis: Kuririn spots Dr. Gero/Artificial Human No. 20 entering his laboratory and lets out ki to warn everyone. Inside, Gero activates Artifical Humans 17 and 18, a young man and young woman. Piccolo and Tenshinhan arrive, but Kuririn informs them Gero is already inside. 17 snatches away the control that could deactivate him and destroys it, not wanting to be deactivated again. Vegeta and Trunks arrive. Vegeta wants to challenge the Artificial Humans, but Trunks wants to retreat. Vegeta instead blasts the door to the lab down. Trunks confirms that the androids before them are the ones that plagued his future. Gero orders the pair to attack, but they disobey. 18 wonders about the No. 16 in the lab, but Gero demands she stay away from it. When Gero threatens to shut them down, No. 17 shoves his hand through him and then kicks his head off. He finishes Gero off with a stomp. Trunks transforms into a Super Saiyan and fires a blast that destroys most of the lab, but 17 and 18 come out unscratched, and activate 16. 16 is aloof and doesn’t respond to their questions, but confirms he was created to destroy Goku. The androids all decide to go find Goku, despite having disobeyed their creator. Vegeta is angry for being ignored and flies after them, landing next to them on a mountain side road to challenge them.
Some Thoughts On: Dragon Ball Kai (English Dub) Episodes 27-39
Dragon Ball Kai‘s dub continues on a pretty consistent quality well into the Namek episodes. It’s a good thing, too, since these are probably the episodes I’ll be getting on Blu-Ray, just in case I want to skip some of the filler in this story arc when rewatching my Dragon Boxes. I can just supplement those sets with these. Kai isn’t a meal, it’s an ingredient, I say.
The good work put into the scripts is clear, especially with the dialogue of certain characters. There are far less "jokey" lines, making characters like Freeza or Kuririn less comical. What’s more, there seems to be specific phrases the Japanese script uses that are used in the dub script that really win me over, providing an experience that is very close to watching the Japanese version of the show. I have very few complaints with the lines I’m hearing.

Dragon Ball Kai – Episode 62 Review
Episode 62, "Piccolo’s Assault! The Missing No. 20 and the Future Gone Eschew"

Synopsis: Hoping to get back to his laboratory, Artificial Human 20 attempts to evade Vegeta and the others by hiding among hte rocks. Attempting to flush him out, Vegeta fires a ki beam that 20 absorbs, and then the Artificial Human escapes. Knowing he can sneak up on the fighters and absorb their energy, No. 20 decides to attack Piccolo, reasoning he’s the next most powerful to Vegeta. He attacks, but Piccolo telepathically alerts Gohan, who saves him. After taking a senzu bean, Piccolo prepares to square off with 20. He easily dominates 20 in combat, surprising everyone. Meanwhile, Trunks returns from the future and sees the head of 19, who he doesn’t recognize. He heads over to where the others are and reveals that these androids are not the ones he knows. Frustrated, Artificial Human 20 fires at the craft Bulma arrives in.
