Otaku Evolution Episode 225 – Trigun: Badlands Rumble

Ah, the Trigun movie, Badlands Rumble. It’s fun. And that’s about all I can say about it. There’s really nothing significant in its premise or execution. It’s just a filler episode with high production values. Come to think of it, the Cowboy Bebop movie was like that, too, but it seemed much more significant and well-constructed. It had more of a beating heart to it. Plus, it was Cowboy Bebop, so it was already going to be better. Which is why that movie is in my favorites and Badlands Rumble is not. But it’s not a waste of time, at least. And after the subject of my previous video, I needed that. read more

Otaku Evolution Episode 189 – Trigun

While not holding up entirely, Trigun is, overall, a pretty fun television series that can proudly stand apart from the manga. There are definitely episodes that are significantly better than others, but you can find that in even the best anime. What I think I like the most about Trigun is that it’s a unique experience. Otaku Revolution’s Top 15 Anime Soundtracks: 10-6

Introduction | 15-11 | 10-6 | 5-2 | 1 | Honorable Mentions

10. .hack//SIGN (Yuki Kajiura)

Yuki Kajiura, like Yoko Kanno, is a massive talent. Her compositions, as well as her group See-Saw’s work for .hack//SIGN are pretty much the soul highlight of an otherwise boring and fruitless television series. There seems to be a Irish and Celtic influences on much of the soundtrack, as well as use of string instruments. There is a very “new age” feel to the music, but it feels a lot more richly evocative than a lot of new age I’ve heard. Emily Bindiger, who contributed to the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack, also provided vocals here, such as in a favorite track of mine, “Key of the Twilight”. Another favorite is “Fake Wings”. If only the show was as good as the soundtrack. read more

A Trip Down Memory Lane, Part 1

This past weekend I had the fortune of visiting my folks back home for the 4th of July weekend. While home I decided to dig out two of my toy chests, giant plastic bins, with a hodgepodge of toys from every point in my life. My main intent was to photograph some of the more memorable items. Perhaps these toys are pretty kick ass, perhaps my nostalgia glasses are on full blast, but either way it was good to see some of them again.

For the most part most of my old toys are in pretty worn condition, some barely exist anymore. Take for instance what’s left of my beloved Optimus Prime G2…
