Synopsis: On his way to Gohan and the others, Piccolo encounters the dying Nail. Nail suggests the two of them fuse together, becoming one being with tremendous power, using Piccolo as the base. Piccolo reluctantly agrees, and the two fuse. Piccolo experiences a massive power up from this. Meanwhile, Freeza, enraged, powers up. Vegeta decides to take him on as they try to overcome each other with their overwhelming ki. Vegeta demands that Freeza show his true form. Comments:

YES YES YES! I'M AWAKE! I'M WIDE AWAKE! My gosh.

About half the episode is dedicated to Piccolo finding Nail and fusing with him. If you ask me, he should have kicked Nail a couple of times in the face for ratting out the others. I mean, he could have kept Freeza distracted a little longer, but no, he had to be a dick and tell him he was being tricked. Thanks, Nail, you tool. Well, now he's essentially dead, since he bonded with Piccolo without keeping his pesonality. At least his energy will be of... no use, since we all know Piccolo is going to lose. So, basically, this part of the episode was completely useless. At least they used one of the Yamamoto tracks I actually like, "The Braveheart's Triumphant Return", which is almost Kikuchi-esque.

Then we move onto the Freeza portion of the episode, which is a lot of grunting and facing off. I guess it's a good thing this is Kai, because in Z it would have been drawn out even more. My favorite part of this bit is Vegeta and Freeza with their hands locked, powering up, and creating a crater. They redid a little bit of it for Kai, and it looks pretty good. The music actually fit that part, too. I liked this part in Z, but it was improved here.

I wish they would have dispensed of the whole Freeza forms thing, though. I know it was all in the manga, but really, how lame. If they just had the form we intially see Freeza in and then the final "true" form, that would have been fine. The big, King Cold looking form and the really bizarre form are so unnecessary. But I guess Toriyama had a lot of different ideas for Freeza and wanted to use them all.

We get a bit of the Freeza song from the Dragon Ball Kai Song Collection at the end, when Kuririn satisfies Freeza's horniness. You'll hear it again.

"Who the hell do you think I am?!"Kuririn makes Freeza honry. AHAHAHAHAHA... yeah.

Overall Score:

3 out of 5
