PG Strike Freedom WIP 02: Perfect Grade – Quality Not Included

This WIP post is more so a mini review of the PG Strike Freedom. People have complained about the price tag not being worth the level of detail/design/proportions/lack of gimmicks but I believe they’ve missed one of this kit’s biggest faults.

But first a few shots of progress thus far…

The skirt armor hasn’t been assembled yet. I figured that it would be difficult to separate the outer and inner pieces and that I might as well leave them off as it’s all get a fancy paint job anyhow. read more

My next, and biggest project in a while, started yesterday…

It’s hard to really show how many runners, and how many individual pieces, are in this kit…

I’ll probably get started on it tonight. I am planning on a custom color scheme for this kit. However, I am drastically unprepared paint wise, and the local shop is out of the colors I need.

Custom-ish decals are on their way from Samuel Decal, should ship tomorrow. read more

Layman’s Gunpla Guide – Battle Damage Tutorial

Applying physical damage to a kit is extremely easy. The downside is that it’s the hardest addition to undo. Here are some popular, simple methods…

Bullet Holes and Sword Wounds

There are a lot of heat weapons in Gundam. Lasers that burn through metal, swords that melt through shields. Creating that effect is easy. The plastic Bandai uses melts nicely under heat and cools quickly. I have yet to see any discoloring, burning, or warping of pieces outside of the effected area. I highly recommend getting a soldering iron for this task. Some people out there use a candle to heat up a nail. You can find inexpensive soldering irons for $10, money I don’t mind spending for the considerable safety benefit of not running around with a hot nail and open flame. Allow me to demonstrate how quickly soldering irons melt right through… read more

Wounded ReZEL – Complete

After an initial disaster at my first attempt at pastel weathering, my wounded MG ReZEL has been completed. It didn’t turn out like I wanted to. Some people like, some don’t. Take a look at decide for yourself. My thoughts on the project at the bottom.

For the most part the kit is a straight build. Just a few silver touch ups and lining here and there. I intended for this kit to be a quick and easy build, nothing elaborate. read more

Wounded ReZEL WIP Update 02: Pastel Woes

For my damaged ReZEL I decided to give pastel weathering a shot. Everything was going good until I gave it a top coat of Testor’s Dull Cote. All of the pastel soaked up into the coat and nearly disappeared.

The outcome was better than I expected, but completely out of left field. (Better because I expected to wake up and see an unsalvageable mess)

The whole situation is no different than when a dirty car gets hit with a little bit of rain. Dirty little water spots. read more

Thus a project conceived back in March has finally come to a close.

As this was the third MG Unicorn built, the process was the smoothest and the end result better than the previous two. Painting the psycho frame and exterior pieces when without a hitch. Aside from the green, and the v-fin, the main suit itself is done in four different tones. White, light gray, medium gray, and dark gray. read more

Wounded ReZEL WIP Update 01

Built this guy a few weeks ago, finally had sometime to get started on it today. (Mainly because I’ve all but run out of paint for last pieces of my FA Unicorn)

Anyhow, this is a short and simple attempt at a battle worn ReZEL inspired by the Unicorn episode two. While in the ep, the leg is severed at the knee, I thought that would be too easy. So I decided to cut (err, melt) at the thickest part.

Full Armor Unicorn Prototype Ver. WIP Update 03

It’s been a while since I posted any updated shots.

This is how the kit looks prior to transformation. Missing a few parts here and there. It will probably never be in this configuration again.

Summer Wars AMV: The Legend of King Kazma

My new AMV, hope you like.

Summer Wars AMV: The Legend of King Kazma from Falldog on Vimeo.

In honor of Funimations’ upcoming release of Summer Wars I’ve decided to produce an AMV staring OZ hero, King Kazma.

I kept the story similar to what happened in the movie. There’s a lot going on in the movie and didn’t want to leave anything out so the whole piece ran rather long. I didn’t know how to wrap things up, but I gave it my best shot. It’ll probably just confuse people in the end. read more
