Using Chain Email to Spread Political Suggestions

At some point, probably earlier this year, someone drove down a boat ramp… truck first. Of course in this day and age someone was near by with a camera and snapped a quick shot. You might find one swing your way complete with a little humorous, probably fabricated, story. One example,

So here it is.

I just bought a new boat and decided to take ‘er for the maiden voyage this past weekend. This is my first boat and I wasn’t quite sure of the exact Standard Operating Procedures for launching it off a ramp, but I figured it couldn’t be too hard. I consulted my local boat dealer for advice, but they just said "don’t let the trailer get too deep when you are trying to launch the boat". Well, I don’t know what they meant by that as I could barely get the trailer in the water at all! Anyhow, here’s a picture. See for yourself. What am I doing wrong?

It’s currently in the process of being passed around the ‘net through websites, and everyone’s arch nemesis, the chain email. As with all chain letters each version is just slightly different than the next. Unfortunately this example has been hijacked by someone with an obvious political leaning… read more

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood – Ep 34 Preview

Since my “rundowns” have been more of a tease than anything, I figure I’d change the title…

Time for my preview of this past weekend’s FMA: Brotherhood release, episode 34. Of course, spoiler free.

Mike has described this episode as the best since Lust vs. Roy. Granted, he has a hard on for the General.

Simple episode this week (at least as far as I can tell from the raw, haven’t seen the subs yet). After encountering Olivier Armstrong and her cohorts Ed and Al get to know them, including one who happens to be Ishbalian. read more

The Thanksgiving Myth: Tryptophan Turkey Nap

For many a generation full Americans have found themselves drowsy and ready for a nap after stuffing themselves at the traditional Thanksgiving Day dinner. This puzzling behavior has long been blamed on the amino acid tryptophan. Unfortunately this is just a myth, as described by Dr. Aaron Carroll and Dr. Rachel Vreeman in their book Don’t Swallow Your Gum!

The truth is. turkey is not to blame for your sleepiness. Chicken and ground beef contain almost the same amount of tryptophan as turkey – about 350 milligrams per 4-ounce serving. … Swiss cheese and pork actually contain more tryptophan per gram than turkey…

Those 350 milligrams are far less than the 500-1000 milligrams often prescribed to help people sleep.

Tryptophan is an essential amino acids, as in our bodies can not produce them and must be ingested with our diet. I can’t really tell you much about tryptophan other than the Wikipedia article is filled with complicated sciency words. Don’t let anyone blame their post-dinner laziness on this poor defenseless molecule. Most scientists blame your desire for some shuteye to other aspects of the meal or even the combined experiance. read more

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood – Ep 31 Rundown

Time for my instant rundown of this past weekend’s FMA: Brotherhood release, episode 31.

Not too many fun screen shots. Plus I didn’t want to ruin anything for Mike (I’ll do that next time there’s some fun action).

So I’ll just share the following three caps,

Not too much action this week, but a lot of set up for future events, and the doctor guy who no one really cares about gets too much screen time.

Several subs are already out… read more

Frame Arms SA-16 Stylet – Review

Awhile back Kotobukiya announced a new line of models called “Frame Arms” and along with it the SA-16 ‘Skylet.’ I thought it was a cool looking design and put in a preorder. Fast forward to a few days ago and the kit I had long since forgotten about arrived safely at my door. Fast forward a little bit more to today and you’ll find a man who sorely regrets his purchase.

The Frame Arms series sounds awesome on paper. A single inner frame with tons of customizable armor and weapons allow one you craft their own free style design with ease. Frames would be sold separately or along with themed armor designs. Not only would parts be swappable between mecha but along with most pieces from Kotobukiya’s Modeling Support Goods series. Sound awesome? Wait till you check out the initial images, which I first saw on Ngee Khoing. read more
