In conjunction with r/Gundam and r/Gunpla we’re pleased to announce our first ever Gunpla competition, Gunpla Posers!
For our first (hopefully not last) Gunpla competition we wanted to do something a bit different than a lot of the other ones out there. Gunpla Posers is not looking for the best paint job, the best photo, or the best custom work. Instead we’re looking for the best pose.
This contest isn’t about pushing the limits of modeling and design but having fun and getting the most out of your gunpla. The kit you submit with doesn’t have to be fully detailed, covered in custom paint, or stand upon a photo realistic representation of Jaburo. It just needs to stand in a way that stands out. Yes, I know my wording needs some work. Judging will be based on how the kit and it’s stance comes across. There are four categories you can enter, each with a bit of unique judging criteria. The intent is to make this contest fun and easy to enter for all ages and skill sets. So dust off your models and start snapping. Besure to read all the rules and entry guidelines listed below. Prizes!Besides a bit of bragging rights we will be giving out a few gifts. Winners will receive a copy of the upcoming re-release of Yoshiyuki Tomino’s Mobile Suit Gundam: Awakening, Escalation, Confrontation. These three books, mostly written after the conclusion of the original series, provide a different take on the start of the the Gundam franchise. As with all Tomino works it remains hotly debated to this day.

There are three categories into which you could submit a photo…
While photo quality won’t be a deciding factor in picking a winner it’s much appreciated and clarity can definitely have a favorable impact. Check out our photography tips to help get the most out of your shots.
I’ve been making decent progress on my clear PG Zaku, though I ran into issues.
The torso and waist armor were both given coats of Tamiya’s Smoke, clear black paint. They booth looked exactly the same prior to the dull coat, but one received the tail end of a Mr. Super Clear Flat can while the other was coated with a fresh one. For whatever reason the waist armor stayed the proper colour and the torso developed an odd blue tint. This is the first time I’ve applied top coat over a piece using clear paint so I’m not sure where to begin in identifying the project. Since this kit is something I’m doing to just work the idea out of my system, and there’s nothing I can really do to fix the pieces aside from ordering new ones, I’ve decided fretting over it isn’t worth the time. There are plenty of other gunpla projects to be anal over!
It’s been a long haul (the project officially started August 4th, 2011) but my MG Delta Plus has finally been completed. This morning I flipped a coin to see which should come first, my retrospective of the kit or all the pretty photos. Thus, if you’d like to read about the trials and tribulations of this build continue on. If you’d just like to scope out the pretty pictures just jump forward to the latter section of this article!
Over on Gundam Guy you can check out my review of the latest 1/48 Mega Size kit, Gundam AGE-1. Check it out!
Long ago, in the depths of 2008, I built a Perfect Grade Char’s Zaku II. It was horrible. A travesty of all things great. A concoction of orange peel’d gloss and stickers. Thus, 2012 being the end of the world, the only proper thing to do would be to light it on fire and sing a sad song in remembrance. Or I could cover it in awesome.
Yeah, I’ll do go with the awesome option instead. Okay, maybe I’m being a bit presumptuous of myself.
Confused, mind bruised, it seeps out
Earlier in the year I came into possession of a MG Z’Gok. Without a plan of attack the kit was put in to storage awaiting the day it would triumphantly return and lay waste to gaggles of unsuspecting GMs. Later, getting my hair cut back in October, I noticed that the place was selling something called Black Shatter nail polish by OPI. The premise seemed simple, apply a base coat using a colour of your choice, let it dry, then cover it with a coat of their shatter nail polish. This crackle polish is designed in such a way that the paint shrinks as it dries, allowing it to split, exposing the underlying surface. At the time, with Halloween less than a month away, the key combination on display was a glow in the dark base coat with black shatter on top. I thought to my self, "Well, that’s a pretty interesting idea. I wonder if that could work on a model," and filed the thought away for later reference.
Maybe it’s about time I let the world onto my little secret Gunpla project…
More to come in the next few days. Maybe.
Some substantial progress on my MG Delta Plus took place last night. Here’s how the main kit now stands…
The front cod piece is undergoing some reconstructive surgery which will probably take some time to complete. In the meantime I suppose I should start work on the wings and shield. In addition, to make up for the issues on the kit itself, I’ve decided to compensate by sprucing up the kit’s action base as well.
Been awhile since I’ve had a solid update regarding this project…
Things haven’t been going so well. Lots of little issues here and there have been adding up. Just yesterday, I’m really close to finishing the legs, and the paint chips off on the same piece on each leg. FFF.
