Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans Episode 7 – Got It By Their Hands

Cold cuts just got hot.

“Oh boy!”, in a jaded tone was the disposition of the time last week when it was found out Tekkadan would put their trip to Earth on hold a bit longer. Maruba, the previous owner of CGS is mad at their absconding of his vessel, and is utilizing another set of individuals to bring it back for him at any cost. As much as well-animated mobile suit combat is nice, plot had to start moving and they need to get to Earth tout suite.

Then the action starts to happen and then all that trepidation melts away like snow under a summer sun, because holy shit you guys, there this: read more

Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans Episode 6 – The Long Transit

Just like that, within one episode, the impression of Orga being a Griffith-type (or Harry McDowell-type) of leader swings back into a role more akin to Kamina again. If that doesn’t raise any red flags about his inevitable demise (never mind being unaware of ANOTHER mole on the ship as far as we know), I don’t know what will. Still, like every minute character moment during downtime it helps to illustrate what kind of person he is. When he observes dear Mika and others learning from Kudelia how to read and write, he doesn’t see it as a threat to his authority, but something beneficial to them as individuals. Then there is the revealing conversation he has with Biscuit regarding why he’s moving directly towards a potential backer, Teiwaz, when they could do something less risky. read more

Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans Barbatos Opening Changes

Slowly, as Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans progresses, so does the Gundam Barbatos as it slowly equips more weapons and armor. That change is reflected in one of the opening segment’s early scenes. I’ll update this page with images of the opening as the series begins.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans Episode 4 – Martian Corn Futures

Contrary to earlier predictions, there is no loss of human life in this episode. There is a close call, but with an episode title like “The Price of Life”, one would think there’d be another casualty. No, it’s just Okada being smart and instead focusing on making all plot and character elements endure a slow burn before Tekkadan heads off into the stars. This is fine. This is absolutely fine.

While Orga is busy discussing logistics and dealing with Martian bureaucracy for Tekkadan’s Earth venture, the show shifts its focus toward Gjallarhorn and Martian civilian life. It is high time the audience had longer moments with Fareed and Bauduin, and it doesn’t disappoint. There’s still an ominous feeling that emanates from them (especially since we haven’t seen them in battle or pushed to their limit), but their demeanour and disposition is so… unique so to speak. They don’t seem to be much for ideology but they’re very dedicated to their job. They won’t take a bribe, and will personally go down planet-side to investigate even further. Then there’s how they treat Biscuit’s sisters when that ‘close call’ mentioned earlier occurs. Normally at this juncture some hoity-toity high class type would probably treat them as something below his contempt. However, the entire scene is dealt tastefully. One can see and sense the divide between them, but it spares us from some humdrum verbal expressions of snobbery and resentment from either side. What is this? Get this shit out of my robot cartoon I want Gjallarhorn to gas an entire city and all the Martians to be like… “nooo we will fight and defeat you!” read more

Cross Ange Episode 25 [FINAL] – Interdimensional Post-Birth Abortion

For the record, that subtitle can apply either to your feelings to the anime if it has remained negative to the end, or the events that will transpire in the episode involving Mr. Nice God.

Well, we’re finally at the end of Cross Ange and boy did this episode excite even if it didn’t explain much in lurid detail. While Embryo’s past is finally revealed, the details of something like the Whoremonic Convergence (the one involving many alternate universes with the Cross Ange cast) are barely touched upon. I guess Embryo’s plan to perfect the world is the first of possibly many, given how his inordinate focus between the World of Mana and the World of DRAGONs. Kindof disappointing really, as he could have mentioned that he is eager to apply his trade to the rest of the multiverse when he becomes able. Maybe something will come for this in a theatrical movie or extras, as per the last episode preview, but for now it is disappointing. read more

Cross Ange Episode 24 – Embryo confirmed for Interdimensional Chris-chan (Or: Supporter’s Medley Part III)

The face of a Nice Guy who just M’ladied his pantaloons.

M’ladying one’s pantaloons – The act of a Nice Guy soiling himself due to a realization that his object of affection (usually a woman) has had sex with another.

This must be a first for a Sunrise mecha show. Usually in these final battles most of the banter is about ideological divides or betrayals. Here, we have Tusk rubbing it in Embryo’s smug face that he did the nasty with Ange in wonderfully lurid detail. Oh no it is not just the fact that he had sex with her, it is how he now knows the number of moles on her body, the number of days the consummation lasted (although that may be exaggeration) and the way he describes the softest, warmest, part of Ange. It’s an awesome thing, and is so totally Cross Ange that I can’t help but want to clap my hands in delight. What a great way to rustle Embryo’s jimmies. read more

Cross Ange Episode 23 – Is the Misurugi Empire’s Princess a serial skidder?

I think deep down that’s what all of us are thinking. In light of the final battle, of all the keepsakes Ange could give to Tusk as a good luck charm, she gives him a freshly worn pair of panties. To be sure, the only major keepsake she has is the ring but she needs to use it for the Vilkiss, but still. I’m betting if there was an alternate ending to the show (in the vein of Fukuda’s purported plan for SEED to end in a super murderfest), I would want it that Ange dies and Tusk in despair takes the panties out of his pocket and sees that the Princess needs some control in certain areas. read more

Cross Ange Episode 22 – For the empty, shallow, whore in all of us.

You and the rest of us watching this show, Pinky.

SPOILERS AWHORE!

Undeterred from being blowed up by Tusk, Embryo puts his world merging plan into action and finally rips his Nice God persona completely off. If it isn’t spanking Salia for her insubordination it’s casually brushing Ersha’s simple request of resurrecting dead preschoolers back to life. Unsurprisingly he does not care one whit about what they want, and only wants to groom them for his new world run by “Strong, intelligent, women”. However, his definition of strength and intelligence is markedly shallow in that it is defined by unquestioning loyalty to him, never mind is showcased by one of said women making him lunch wearing only an apron. Thank goodness Cross Ange is not a dating sim, or else this would all just be very very very uncomfortable when you have to “Press X to spank”. read more

Cross Ange Episode 21 – Never let a Nice God Finish Last (Or: Supporter’s Medley Part II)

WARNING – SPOILERS (Pretty shocking bits this episode)

In any other anime, I would probably be completely annoyed at Embryo by now. The god not only doesn’t know when to quit, he continues to reveal how much power he has. If it isn’t poking somebody to send them into fits of pain/pleasure, it’s turning the very people he created a perfect world for into a zombified mass. I love it, it is well within the show’s very nature of being bonkers, and continues to make me look forward to finally seeing how somebody with all this power finally dies. If this is the intention of the story writers, then kudos y’all are doing an exceptional job. read more

Cross Ange Episode 19 – Embryo Muyo!

Ange ain’t having none of your bullshit.

Boy I love it when episodes of this show feel brisk when watching. We not only get quite a bit explained about why Salia, Ersha, and Chris join Embryo, but we get to spend more time with God himself. Embryo’s been rather an enigmatic presence in the series, what with his resurrecting and the overwhelming fear and hatred his mere name generates from people. As such, knowing him a bit more is the most welcome of developments, especially when it takes place at the potential epicenter of the final conflict. read more
