Sean Schemmel’s Goku still isn’t great, but at least it’s sort of improved. Colleen Clinkenbeard’s Gohan is good, though.

Episode 24, "Deadline! Dr. Hell’s Full-Scale Assault"

Synopsis: As Kouji arrives at the place of duel with Baron Ashura, Dr. Hell’s armies begin their full-scalle assault on Atami. Sayaka leaves the Kurogane House to return to the Photon Power Labs. Tsubasa tells her to forget the shadow she saw while staying there. The Kurogane bunch prepare to fight the oncoming enemy. Ankokuji and Gamia are thrown into a special oubliette. God Scrander is launched to help Kouji and Mazinger, who are locked in combat with several Mechanical Beasts, as Kouji has been led into a trap. Viscount Pygman has arrived in Atami ahead of the rest of Count Brocken’s forces and prepares to attack the Photon Power Labs. However, Baron Ashura has meanwhile begun attacking the city itself. It turns out that the Ashura robot at the duel is two other Mechanical Beasts in disguise. The Mazinger Corps launch into combat as Pygman arrives. A figure arrives at the prison Akokuji has been put in. Kouji finds himself overwhelmed by the number of enemies and their great power. The Kurogane forces go into battle with Dr. Hell’s forces, with Boss using his Boss Borot robot to intercept a giant missile. Pygman tricks the scientists and gains access to the lab, but Sayaka’s father self-destructs the entire facility. Meanwhile, Kenzo Kabuto appears before Tsubasa. Enraged, she attacks him.
Dragon Ball Kai – Episode 48 Review

Synopsis: With a new power unleashed, Goku easily blocks Freeza’s path, disabling him from killing Gohan as he escapes with Piccolo. Freeza is astonished by this transformation and throws ki blast after ki blast to try to stop Goku, but Goku easily avoids or endures everything thrown at him, and enraged, attacks Freeza. When Freeza demands to know what has happened to his opponent, Goku confirms that he is the legendary Super Saiyan. Freeza is angered at his inability to hurt Goku, and decides to destroy the entire planet of Namek.
Dragon Ball Kai – Episode 47 Review
Episode 47, "Awaken, Legendary Warrior… Son Goku, the Super Saiyan!"

Synopsis: Before Freeza can finish Piccolo off, Gohan and Kuririn fire ki blasts. Fed up, Freeza decides that he’ll destroy the entire planet. He forms a black ball of ki and flies up into the sky. Goku finishes collecting ki for his Genki Dama, which eclipses Freeza’s ki ball and surprises him. Freeza tries to hold the huge ki ball back, but it overwhelms him, and explodes in a flash of light. Gohan and Kuririn recover from the blast, wondering where Goku and Piccolo are. Piccolo comes out of the water, lifting Goku out. The group reunites, and seemingly victorious, plan to go back to Earth. However, Freeza appears, still very much alive, and angered. He fires a ki blast at Goku that Piccolo takes for him. Then he makes Kuririn explode from within. This enrages Goku, and he transforms, his hair and aura now golden. He faces off with an astonished Freeza.
Dragon Ball Kai – Episode 46 Review
Episode 46, "This is the Last Trump Card! Goku’s Extra-Large Genki-dama"

Synopsis: Low on strength, Goku is unable to put up any further a fight against Freeza, who toys with him. Gohan wants to help his father, but Piccolo advises against it, as Goku is about to do something. Goku raises his hands to the sky, confusing Freeza, but Kuririn realizes what he’s about to do: create a Genki Dama! Goku uses power from Namek and surrounding planets, while Freeza is unable to figure out what he’s doing. A huge Genki Dama forms in the sky, far bigger than the one Goku made on Earth. Freeza attacks Goku, who continues forming it. Piccolo has Gohan and Kuririn lend him some of their ki so he can distract Freeza long enough for Goku to finish the Genki Dama. Freeza finally sees the Genki Dama and plans to finish Goku off before it’s finished, but Piccolo interrupts. Piccolo tries to hold Freeza off, but nothing he does appears to work. Freeza decides he will kill Piccolo first.
Dragon Ball Kai – Episode 45 Review
Episode 45, "It’s a 20-Fold Kaio-ken! A Kamehameha With Everything on the Line"

Synopsis: Gohan throws the Bulma frog in front of Piccolo before Ginyu can switch bodies with him, returning Bulma to her body. Freeza continues having the advantage in the fight, while Goku is losing strength. Seeing Freeza’s power, Goku realizes he can’t win on his own. He decides that he’ll try a 20x Kaioken. Freeza continues to beat on Goku. Goku ends up in the water, but when he tries to emerge, Freeza holds him under. Drowning, Goku has a horrible vision that causes him to break free from Freeza. He uses a 20x Kaioken and fires a Kamehameha at Freeza, but Freeza ends up barely damaged by it. Goku has another vision, this time of Vegeta telling him to defeat Freeza. However, Freeza is angered by this and rushes forward to continue.
