Lupin III Part V Episode 18 Review

Episode 18, “Fujiko’s Souvenir”

*****SPOILERS*****

Synopsis:  When Lupin’s toilet breaks, the gang are forced to quarrel over who uses Jigen’s, all the while trying to figure out why Fujiko is around, and warding off a clueless Inspector Zenigata. Will our favorite cast of thieves be able to keep hideout secret from the law? Will the men figure out what Fujiko’s hiding? It’s a domestic Lupin episode!

Comments:

I’m not really sure how to review this episode. Did you read my synopsis? That’s basically it, folks. Lupin’s toilet breaks because Fujiko leaves something in the tank (fortunately, not steaming upper decker). The gang argue over who gets to use the other one (does Goemon not have his own room?). Then Zenigata drops in when he smells Goemon’s cooking and is craving Japanese food. Then Fujiko retrieves the object she was hiding and we discover why she did it (kind of). read more

ThunderCats 2011 Episodes 23 – 26 [FINAL]– Purr-emature Purr-manent Demise

I gotta end this watchthrough with a rotten pun. Sorry.

So after skipping a week so I could watch some OG Dragonball (a decision I do NOT regret), it’s time to cover these final few episodes. Long story short, they’re good but so good it really hurts when one realizes that after the final scene, it is all we’ve got. Short story long? Well… let’s see what interested me about this.

Coming out of Episode 22 I expected the following episode (“Recipe for Disaster”) to reunite the bunch for the next Stone. Instead we get another filler episode involving a disturbingly large, if sweet caterpillar, her snake oil salesman master (a species from the original series), and of course Lion-O’s attempt to woo Pumyra. The last one makes for amusing moments, given how Lion-O is socially awkward in being sweet to her, which not only involves her face getting an allergic reaction to a flower to Tygra drinking a love potion from aforementioned snake oil salesman meant for her. The last part makes this episode worthwhile, since Matt Mercer really nails how out of it the usually snarky and sometimes super serial Tygra is when under the spell of a potion that makes him all touchy feely. Plus he calls Panthro a ‘silly goose’. read more

Synopsis:  Lupin is summoned to the home of Count Phillipe de Maunbassant’s widow, Isabelle, to solve the mystery of his murder. It’s a whodunit where the criminal ISN’T Lupin! read more

Otaku Evolution Episode 119 – Cowboy Bebop

Hm, maybe I should have timed this better so it could be the 120th episode. 20th anniversary of the show, 120th episode, get it? Well, whatever, 119 will have to do.

Cowboy Bebop is an unvarnished work of genius, an exquisite blending of genres set to a multitude of rhythms. It’s not defined by its genres, though, but by ingenuity in execution and emotional gravity. There’s plenty of other reasons why it remains my favorite anime after so long.  So for my 35th birthday (what the fuck am I doing with my life?), I’ve decided to review this eternal classic of Japanese animation. read more

ThunderCats 2011 Episodes 19 – 22 – Those Pre-Finale Dog Days

With Lion-O once again righting his course, it would appear this series is prepping for its finale with this small set of episodes. At my initial viewing, I thought it would be a ‘one-and-done’ at their latest locale: a desert dog town. Instead, it unfurls into a semi-lengthy mini-arc of lore and loss. The latter part is not just any loss, but multiple losses of life, plot devices, and even personal effects. Who knew?

The big draw of all this however is the introduction to a new ThunderCat to the mix: Pumyra. With the exception of Bengali (who probably would’ve been in the second season), all the primary ThunderCats from the original show are accounted for in the first season. Pumyra from the original show is kindof an inoffensive, and eventually nonexistent entity. Juxtaposed with the warrior Cheetara, she was more the nice nurturer. However in 2011, it appears the roles are reversed. Cheetara’s role as a cleric, never mind her encouragement of Lion-O in the first half, makes her the nurturer in this iteration. Pumyra? All warrior, what with her introduction of her being badass in a gladiator’s arena. read more

Otaku Evolution Episode 118 – Mid Year English Dub Review IV

Ah, the middle of the year (was over a month ago!). A great time to go over the English dubs of anime I’ve covered thus far in 2018, so I don’t have to cover a year’s worth at the end of the year. This is also an opportunity to talk about the myriad of different ADR studios, specific dubs, and voice actors encountered in these videos.

And hey, only a pre-title bit, no after-credits bit! I’m actually going to retire those things until late October. It’s been taking me two or three weeks to do videos that should only take a single week, maybe a week and half, to finish, these days. I do love my leftover detritus from my old sprite comic, but I need to concentrate on the actual REVIEW part of each review video. read more

Episode 15, “Her Relationship With Lupin”

*****SPOILERS*****

Synopsis:  A badly injured Lupin is rescued by Fujiko, who wisks him and Ami away from the palace, pursued by the High Priest’s forces. Dolma has been working with the CIA and the High Priest to overthrow Padar’s government and take the throne as a puppet in exchange for the sparing of her father, the king’s, life. Her father, in the meantime, has cozied up to the Shake Hands tech corporation, run by a man with ambigious intentions. After removing the arrow from Lupin’s abdomen and running a ways with him and Ami, Fujiko seemingly abandons the two to draw the fire of the High Priest’s men, but Lupin springs back into action to help her. Will he get her out of danger in time? Fujiko’s fiercer than ever in this dash to safety as martial law is declared! read more

Dragon Ball Super: Broly (2018) Trailer

JP:

ENG:

Just know that I personally think less of anyone who’s excited to give BROLY another chance after three shitty movies. People getting hyped for the return of this black hole of a character concept strips away much of the regard I had left for humanity.

ThunderCats 2011 Episodes 14 – 18 – An Emotional Rrrowr

So after seeing his adopted bro making out with his crush, we start this next batch of episodes with a fuming Lion-O. Yeah he seems to have gotten the hang of the Sword of Omens, and has gained enough respect from his fellow felines that herding them together so he can disparage Mumm-Ra as a loose woman is easier, but… that’s only before the cockblock. 3/5ths of this episode batch involve Lion-O coming to grips with Cheetara picking Tygra over him, and by god he tries. It’s actually a nice bit of development for him, since the show has him try to act above his heartbreak as possible, but once the big two-parter begins it shows he still has a lot to work with even with his team’s loyalty present. read more
