Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans Episode 6 – The Long Transit

Just like that, within one episode, the impression of Orga being a Griffith-type (or Harry McDowell-type) of leader swings back into a role more akin to Kamina again. If that doesn’t raise any red flags about his inevitable demise (never mind being unaware of ANOTHER mole on the ship as far as we know), I don’t know what will. Still, like every minute character moment during downtime it helps to illustrate what kind of person he is. When he observes dear Mika and others learning from Kudelia how to read and write, he doesn’t see it as a threat to his authority, but something beneficial to them as individuals. Then there is the revealing conversation he has with Biscuit regarding why he’s moving directly towards a potential backer, Teiwaz, when they could do something less risky. read more

Batman & Robin Eternal #4 Review

Axe me no more questions, tell me no more dies!

Someone’s in the kitchen with Grayson, someone’s in the kitchen I know-ow-ow, someone’s in the kitchen with Grayson, landing a lot of blows! Who isn’t in there, though? It’s a regular kitchen nightmare in the fourth episode of DC’s weekly Grayson extension, I mean Batman tale. Bruce is still addled, the Robin group battles, and an angry Steph taddles! It looks like Tim Drake has a secret allegience, Dick doesn’t mind walking around in public with the Hypnos implant, Harper prefers Cass’s company to Spoiler’s (who wouldn’t?), and Duke Thomas is now a somewhat relevant character! So activate your sleeper agent, it’s time for me to snark about this issue. read more

Elyn Hobby 1/100 Kshatriya – Main Body Complete

It took longer than I would’ve liked, but three weeks and 12-15 hours of assembly/final detailing later the Elyn Hobby Kshatriya is now 2/3 of the way complete.

The biggest issue I had was, again, with the LEDs. The first was the lighting that’s supposed to be in the thrusters on either side of the legs. The documentation in this section of the guide is pretty shit-tastic, shows wires going this way and that but not really how the circuit is supposed to work or where all the leads are supposed to sit. I got one wired up and found out that it didn’t work. Not sure if it was an issue with the circuit, or dead batteries, or what. The second set had a bunch of broken wires including one that connects to the super small switch and doesn’t appear to have an easily attachable point to re-solder the cable. I ended up just saying “fuck it” and pulling the wiring out and assembling those parts without the LEDs. It looks nicer anyway as it looked like there wasn’t any way to hide the cables, they would’ve just wrapped around the back of the leg. read more

Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans Episode 5 – All about the atmosphere.

…Since well… the show has a lot of it in terms of its world building and theming plus… y’know… the action in this week’s episode takes place just above Mars atmosphere but anyway…

Now that the show has gone through four episodes of establishing foundations (or the ‘frame’ if we want to be nerds and connect it to the show), it’s time to start moving upwards and build upon it. As a result we do not get the nice character moments in previous episodes that lets us linger in idiosyncrasies of the world. However, that’s okay since we’ve got enough for right now and we REALLY need to get going with the plot. Still, there’s a lot to like even if it is little things like Mika instantly offering his blanket to Kudelia moments after he notices her visiting him, to McGillis’s reaction to Tekkadan’s ‘present’ to him by episode’s end. read more

Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans Barbatos Opening Changes

Slowly, as Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans progresses, so does the Gundam Barbatos as it slowly equips more weapons and armor. That change is reflected in one of the opening segment’s early scenes. I’ll update this page with images of the opening as the series begins.

Messing around with Gunpla and Coloured Lights

About a week ago I saw this image refereced on Reddit and figured it might be fun to try out a few of those setups on some of my kits starting with the coloured backlighting all the way at the end.

A few weeks ago I redid my photo area, opting for a gray surface in front of black muslin. This created a gap between the table and the backdrop which allows me to throw in a bit of backlighting. I got myself an inexpensive colour changing LED bulb, placed it behind the table, and started taking photos. read more
