Penguin Truth’s Top 0010 Bond Films

 

I love a good James Bond movie. Hell, I even love some of the terrible ones. What other film franchise has lasted as long as the Bond series? Why does he endure so? Decades of people have grown up with the suave British spy working for Her Majesty’s Secret Service, seducing women, rolling his eyes at long villain speeches, driving cars with revolving license plates, and using pen grenades to fight guys with guns made of pens and lighters to stop ridiculous satellite weapons in time for a drink and a shag. Ian Fleming wrote 11 novels and several short stories of the Eton-educated, chain-smoking, commie-killing "blunt instrument", most of which were transformed into movies. Fleming died (during the filming of Goldfinger) well before the well ran dry, so he never got to see his creation star in 23 Eon Productions movies and a couple of "unofficial" ones. I, however, have watched every one of them, most of them at least twice, some of them several more times than that. read more

M61A5 Semovente MBT – WIP 1

Wooh, how about some WIP shots of my Semovente MBT? (How do you pronounce Semovente anyway?) But first, commentary!

Thus far things have been moving pretty quickly. Aside from a couple of days when I lost an integral part of my airbrush that is. As you can see I’m moving forward with my grey and grey-blue gray colour scheme. It’s certainly different which is think is great. Lots of little detail parts need to be done here and there. At some point I’m going to start weathering as well. There’s a possibility I’m going to overdo it so appreciate these clean shots while they last. Also, you may notice that I’m doing digital camo again. This time only two colours under the main colour and at an angle. I hope it comes out okay, placement of the first layer went well but I wasn’t fond of how the second went on. The first coat of the top colour is currently drying. read more

Too Hot For Channel Awesome: What Got Me Banned From Commenting At TGWTG

The only thing less funny than Demo Reel is Uncle Yo. The man has never approached humorous in his entire life. Except it’s humorous how people think he’s entertaining, so I guess that counts for something.

No, he’s just awful. I’ve had funnier bowel movements. I’ve heard more laughter at Sloan Kettering. Pagliacci elicits more chuckles. Uncle Yo isn’t anti-humor, he’s negative-humor. He actually destroys existing humor. Things that were previously amusing, mirthful, and jolly have now become permanently devoid of said funny. For instance? Ghostbusters is now not funny, because Uncle Yo once came in contact with it. Go watch it again. Seriously. It’s now no longer funny, because of him. He is anti-matter to humor. Un-humor, I’d call it. When he comes into contact with comedy, it is destroyed in a blaze of hackiness. read more

Layman’s Gunpla Guide – Guide to Glue

Now, 90% of the time, you’ll be able to complete a kit without needing any glue. Unfortunately, that other 10% is filled with broken parts, loose joints, and extremely small pieces. There’s quite an assortment of glues out there and picking the best one for the task can make life a lot easier, and make your kit look better. These all should be available at your local hobby shop, aside from super glue, which is available at grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations etc.

For simplicity’s sake I’ve divided glues into five basic categories with recommendations based on personal usage. There’s a lot of glues out there and, depending where you’re located in the world, may not have access to the same ones I do.You can search for the active ingredients in most glues online, cross referencing them to what I have here. Though, at the end of the day, nothing beats a bit of old school experimentation. read more

M61A5 Semovente MBT – Quick Look

Inspired by some great looking projects out there (such as Khai62‘s) I decided to dust off my kit and snap fit the parts. My first impression is that the kit was huge! Before opening the box (which I’ve had since Decmeber 2011 – I likely opened it up once back then said "woah it’s huge" only to forget until now) I expected it to be about the size of my 1/144 Hildolfr. Guess I missed the part about this kit being 1/35 scale. read more

Thoughts On The Eureka Seven: AO Finale

I agree, Ao. I felt the same way after watching it.

(Note: Contains E7 and E7AO spoilers)

If you haven’t read my review of Eureka Seven: AO, here it is in a nutshell: First half was great, second half was a mess with too much plot and not enough clear motivations. The final two episodes, which have finally aired after an annoyingly long hiatus, are actually fine, but make me angrier at the creators than I was before watching them. Not only did this show have a good idea to begin with – the idea was apparently good overall (including all the reveals and ultimate finale concept), but they felt the need to fuck around for about 8-10 episodes in the middle, and then were forced to cram in the entire explanation and pseudo resolution of everything into the last two episodes. In fact, it’s mostly in the last episode, since the one before it is basically more setup (in that sense it reminded me a bit of Trinity Blood – another show that tries to explain everything in the last 5 minutes). read more

Evangelion 3.0 Opening 6 Minutes

So, yeah… pretty awesome. I’d let Pirate Asuka handle my Jolly Roger, if you know what I mean. (I MEANT MY PENIS.) (Wait, she’s how old again?) (So yeah, definitely would let her.)

Why was this not here earlier? I have to return and do this? For shame, other ORers. Forcing me to actually do something.
