Project NUnicorn – Complete

[flickr-photo:id=7681016844,size=n]

With her completion she’s been officially designated the NUnicorn. A silly, yet endearing name. It’s okay, because I prefer the nickname ‘Noon.’

This is fouth MG Unicorn kit I’ve completed (one, two, three) and it’s clear to see the improvements over each one. There’s so many opportunities to design new schemes that I’m looking forward to painting the other two I have in my possession.

For Noon roughly 90% of the kit has been painted or at the least received a top coat. Only a few pieces of the internal frame, those not visible, remained untouched. Excluding the orange psycho frame of course. For some reason I like how it looks with the white armor and wanted to keep that aesthetic. The rest of the kit is fairly true to the Nu Gundam colour scheme aside from a few tweaks here and there. Most of the paints are Tamiya; Bright Mica Red, regular &  Matt Black, various shades of silver, and a light gray (inner shield & under some of the thruster flaps). Parts of the frame received my favorite Krylon gray primer while white primer was used as a base for Tamiya’s white on the stomach/hip parts. read more

Project N-Unicorn – Update 03

Last WIP shots for this project. In fact, most of it is almost done, just a key few pieces currently baking. I just wanted to snap a few shots now. For whtaever reason, when this kit is sans arms, you can really see Katoki’s love of long legs.

Project N-Unicorn – Update 02

Things are slowly coming along. I’ve been having some trouble painting key orange pieces yellow. I’m probably going to have to prime all of them on my Titans Unicorn. :/

Project N-Unicorn – Update 01

Project N-Unicorn/Nu-nicorn/νnicorn has swung into high gear. At least 80% of the pieces on this kit are getting individual attention. The brunt of the pieces being left alone are of the orange psycho frame. Aside from a few internal frame pieces that never see the light of day the rest are either being painted grey, a shade of silver, or being left alone and dull coated. The shades of grey are just slightly different enough that it breaks up the frame nicely. Though those subtle differences will likely be lost in the end photos. read more

Project N-Unicorn – Start

Of my three upcoming MG Unicorn projects this is the second, project N-Unicorn*. It’s going to be a standard MG Unicorn, with the MG Banshee yellowish psycho frame, and a Nu Gundam color scheme. Here are a few pictures of the kit pre-paint. Frankly I think the clear yellowish pieces look pretty good with the white armor.

Gunpla Rumor Time – PG Unicorn?!

The following just showed up on Samuel Decal‘s news feed…

A FUTURE NEWS….

MG AGE-2 7月14日
MegaSize 1/48 AGE-3 8月
RG Justice Gundam 形状試作公開 7月21日
MG Buster Gundam 8月
MG Aegis Gundam 9月
HGUC Rose Zulu 8月
HGAC Wing gundam 8月
HGAC Tallgeese 9月
HGFC Dragon Gundam 9月
PG Unicorn Gundam 製作發表 11月 ※8月のキャラホビで形状試作公開
PG Banshee 製作發表 11月 ※8月のキャラホビで形状試作公開

For those too lazy to open up Google Translator, 月 means month, so this list represents August through November of this year. The notes following the PG Unicorn and Banshee seem to indicate that it’s currently in a testing phase and my premier at this year’s Chara Hobby???

Rumors are just rumors, but there’s enough there to get the blood flowing. HG Gundam Wing kits? A PG Unicorn?! Considering what Bandai’s been up to recently the list isn’t all the surprising. A MG AGE-2 is pretty much inevitable (though I would’ve liked to see a MG G-Exes first) and a MegaSize AGE-3, though in tune with what the previous MegaSize AGE1/2 kits, would be bloody massive. read more

MG Banshee – Unboxing Impressions

I just wanted to take a quick minute to share my early impressions of the latest member of my MG Gundam Unicorn collection, the Master Grade Banshee. P.S. Be forewarned, it’s incredibly late after a long day at work and this article is probably full of incoherent sentences and half finished thoughts.

The kit itself appears to have been built off the MG Unicorn OVA version kit. I have to dive into it a bit more but it looks like it has the shorter leg pieces (to facilitate a tad more poseability) and the non-vulcan head (though the head pieces are different, apparently to facilitate the Banshee’s antlers. read more

It’s been a long haul (the project officially started August 4th, 2011) but my MG Delta Plus has finally been completed. This morning I flipped a coin to see which should come first, my retrospective of the kit or all the pretty photos. Thus, if you’d like to read about the trials and tribulations of this build continue on. If you’d just like to scope out the pretty pictures just jump forward to the latter section of this article! read more

MG Delta Plus – WIP Update 03

Some substantial progress on my MG Delta Plus took place last night. Here’s how the main kit now stands…

The front cod piece is undergoing some reconstructive surgery which will probably take some time to complete. In the meantime I suppose I should start work on the wings and shield. In addition, to make up for the issues on the kit itself, I’ve decided to compensate by sprucing up the kit’s action base as well. read more
