Layman’s Gunpla Guide – General Building Equipment

If you’re looking to build Gunpla you’re going to need some tools. Thankfully you only need a small set at your disposal to accomplish great builds.

 Must have…

Must have if you’re building regularly…

A pair of basic hobby nippers

A pair of GodHand nippers

General Hobby Nippers

Unless you’re a 15 year-old me you’ll want to do the smart thing and cut – not rip – all your Gunpla pieces from the runners. The easiest and safest way to do so is with a pair of hobby nippers (also known as hobby cutters or side cutters).

Ranging from $10 to $80 you should be able to find a pair at any hobby store and many online retailers. You’re probably wondering, is the more expensive pair better than the cheaper pair? Well, the short answer is, yes. Long answer is that generally, especially when it comes to tools, you get what you pay for. read more

Layman’s Gunpla Guide and Tutorial

Hello and welcome to the Layman’s Gunpla Guide!

When I created this guide back in 2008 I wanted to translate all I was learning about Gunpla into an easy to use guide for all ages and all skill levels. Since then I’ve seen a lot more people enter the hobby, fads come and go, and the proliferation of YouTube and other video tutorials. Me, I’m sticking with the written format – just think it’s easier and more approachable than videos stuffed with ads and filler. The proliferation of social media has also helped connect hobbyists across the globe. In the end, there are lots of great resources now and I encourage you to use them as well. Make sure to check out this section of the guide with my favorite sites and Discord channels. read more

(Reposting) My Angel’s Egg AMV

Since OR won’t let me embed veoh videos: http://www.veoh.com/videos/v1585001SPSJx5t2

So the story behind this is probably better left put in the Rants & Raves section, but suffice it to say I generally HATE anime music videos. So one Christmas in 2005, I decided to sit down and create my own in a three to four day period.

New Capcom VS game? Who is Tatsunoko?

That’s right. There’s a brand new Capcom VS arcade game. It sure did take a long time. I suppose they were listening to their fans. Now, we all know that there won’t be a Marvel Vs Capcom 3 any time soon due to licensing issues. However, the new VS game is Tatsunoko vs Capcom Cross Generation of Heroes. Most of you are probably not familiar with Tatsunoko, at least not right away. Given other blog posts here at Otaku Revolution, I can safely assume this will be in your interests. Tatsunoko is responsible for some awesome anime series such as Macross, Casshern, Samurai Pizza Cats, Karas, Speed Racer, Video Girl Ai, and The Soul Taker among other series. read more

Gurren Lagann licensed by Bandai Entertainment

From Anime News Network:

The North American distributor Bandai Entertainment has announced at its New York Comic Con 2008 panel at 17:43 on Friday that it has licensed Hiroyuki Imaishi and Gainax’s Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann robot anime series. Another distributor, ADV Films, had announced at Anime Expo 2007 in July that it had licensed this series. However, ADV Films then removed this series and many others from its catalog in January, and did not restore Gurren Lagann’s place in its catalog when the other titles returned in February.
