Seraph Hobby 1/35 Banshee Gundam Bust – A Quick Review

I wanted to take some time to review my first non-Bandai Gunpla release, the 1/35 scale Banshee Bust from Seraph Hobby. I’ve got a few option pieces here and there but never a full blown kit so it has been a pretty interesting experience. I picked this up via the always great decal resource, Samuel Decal. If you follow the link you’ll see Seraph Hobby’s press photos for the kit.

Perhaps I should start by saying that I in no way condone Bandai knockoffs. If you have the choice between a Bandai made kit, and a reprint from TT Hongli, go Bandai every time. Every review I’ve ever seen has easily placed the Bandai product as the superior release. Sure, Bandai’s releases generally cost more but it’s worth it. Plus you should really support the folks who took the time to develop, design, and manufacture the original product. However, when you start talking about kits that Bandai doesn’t make, it’s a massive gray area. Awhile back I started getting these PG sized action bases which are just reprints of the one included with the PG 00 Gundam plus some extra pieces to support every PG kit. The one included with my 00 broke, so what to do, wait years to get a replacement? Buy another PG just for a base? Or get a clear one which Bandai doesn’t even offer. read more

Batman Eternal #33 Review

An arsenal up in smoke, Wayne Enterprises might go broke, and Julia might croak in this thirty-second episode of DC’s weekly Batman free-for-all (but you have to buy it). This does seem a little padded out since it only concentrates on one branch of the story, but everything in here is pretty solid material, and it’s good to see that Batman is actually a character in the book with his name. in the title. Though it seems like the real star here is one Julia Pennyworth, even if she may have bitten off more than she can chew. read more

Gundam: The Origin I PV

I want- nay, need- this in my life. They even have Mayumi Tanaka (Kuririn and Monkey D. Luffy) as the younger Red Comet. I just hope it’s not as expensive as Unicorn (still don’t have the final two volumes, might not ever).

Ghost in the Shell FPS trailer

Looks decent enough, though I haven’t played a FPS in ages, so I don’t know what is considered good with those anymore. Obviously the graphics are not really current-gen, but it gives it a nice PS2-ish feel and I love me some Stand Alone Complex.

Batman Eternal #32 Review

The key is blood, Bard should have gone "thud", and the Batsuit has crud on this thirty-second chapter of DC’s weekly Batman hullabaloo. The new Commissioner of Gotham apparently hasn’t learned his lesson and is still working with Hush. Batwing is finally rescued from the hole that was once Arkham Asylum. Julia is reunited with her father. Finally, Hush exploits Batman’s own devices in a scheme to frame him. But the issue doesn’t feel too jam-packed with events. read more

Batman Eternal #31 Review

Kicking ass with brawn and class! With brutality and sass, they break the black mass, and boy do they have the brass for the task! It’s the team up that, frankly, I never would have thought of wanting! In this thirty-first issue of DC’s weekly Batman happening, Alfred Pennyworth fights his way from out of the wreckage of Arkham Asylum with the help of the masked beefcake Bane, who, despite not actually being very insane, was being housed at Arkham, probably for the safety of other prisoners (I think it’s that case for a number of Batman foes). Meanwhile, Hush brings the hurt to Spoiler and Batman develops a rapport with Julia. This issue does a great job making up for that lackluster previous one. read more

Batman Eternal #30 Review

Spectre makes Blackfire humble, Arkham Asylum crumbles, Batwing takes a tumble, and Batman feels like he’s fumbled in this thirtieth entry in DC’s weekly Batman (melo)drama. With Blackfire’s plans stomped by an irate Spirit of Vengeance and Arkham a giant crater, it’s possible that we’re finally seeing the finish line for all this supernatural nonsense that’s getting in the way of the battle with Hush, Catwoman’s rise to power, and Jim Gordon’s situation (when was the last time we even saw Jimbo?). And frankly, this issue seems a little padded. Just like this particular part of this series. read more
