Gurren Lagann Writer/Director Reunite for Action Anime Kill la Kill

After much speculation, it was finally revealed that the new anime project from Hiroyuki Imaishi and Kazuki Nakashima – who last collaborated on the epic Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann – is the school battle action Kill la Kill, which will be produced by Studio Trigger. An official website has also been launched at http://www.kill-la-kill.jp/

Let’s hope these two recreate the magic of TTGL.

Netflix: Destroying Gurren Lagann One Episode at a Time [Updated x2]

Right now Netflix has a pretty sweet collection of anime available to watch instantly. Gurren Lagann is one of them as well. However, Netflix members should avoid watching the via the service, especially if you haven’t viewed it already.

That’s because one of the most important episodes, episode 8, is missing!

Yes, a defining episode of Gurren Lagann where *cough spoiler cough* occurs has been replaced by episode 9. New viewers will suddenly find the plot suddenly skipped ahead with no explanation (and that’s already happened). I’ve reached out to Netflix and will update if I hear anything back. In the meantime you should just hit up your favorite torrent site or, better yet, pick it up for less than $40 on Amazon. The latter is definitely your best bet. Not only will you get the Japanese dub (the English one is… well… it’s not nearly as hot blooded) but you will be supporting everyone involved with the series and its NA import. read more

Otaku Revolution’s Top 15 Anime Soundtracks: 10-6

Introduction | 15-11 | 10-6 | 5-2 | 1 | Honorable Mentions

10. .hack//SIGN (Yuki Kajiura)

Yuki Kajiura, like Yoko Kanno, is a massive talent. Her compositions, as well as her group See-Saw’s work for .hack//SIGN are pretty much the soul highlight of an otherwise boring and fruitless television series. There seems to be a Irish and Celtic influences on much of the soundtrack, as well as use of string instruments. There is a very “new age” feel to the music, but it feels a lot more richly evocative than a lot of new age I’ve heard. Emily Bindiger, who contributed to the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack, also provided vocals here, such as in a favorite track of mine, “Key of the Twilight”. Another favorite is “Fake Wings”. If only the show was as good as the soundtrack. read more

Scribble Defense rips off Gurren Lagann? – Updated

I see what you did there…

It’s come to my attention a new tower defense type game has been released on Xbox Live featuring some suspicious cover art.

Scribble Defense is a new, yet well received, take on the tower defense genre. While the game appears innocent enough, fans of Gurren Lagann might find the cover art oddly familiar…

Your eyes aren’t deceiving you. It looks a lot like the ultimate antagonist, the Anti-Spiral…

Now, it could be a homage, but they’re generally a lot more subtle than this. Perhaps it’s just mere coincidence? I highly doubt it. The developer, Elbert Perez, posts on Twitter as mechaghost and even launched his website with a little Gurren Lagann image. He strikes me as the kind of chap who would’ve seen the series through. I can’t find any other references to the series on his site. read more

Sci Fi vs Gurren Lagann

As many of you know by now Gurren Lagann has begun its first airing in the United States. Every Monday at 11PM EST you can catch two new episodes, airing only on the Sci Fi channel. Sounds great right? An amazing series with an average dub getting air time is always great. Unfortunately Sci Fi, best known for bringing us epic series’ such as Battlestar Galactica and countless original movies no one will ever watch, is ruining the experience.

If you’ve yet to tune in you might be asking how. Let’s start by looking at some basic times… read more

Gurren Lagann: The Dub Review

The Gurren Lagann dub premiered for the first time on Sci-Fi tonight…

The short and simple of it? It’s not so bad.

So dub’s often get a bad rap, often for good reason. With much anticipation Gurren Lagann fans with little or nothing to do sat around and watched the premiere of the first two dubbed episodes on the Sci-Fi Channel. And boy, what a commercially studded event that was (more on that to come, trust me (fucking Sci-Fi)).

For those unfamiliar with the show, you’re way behind the times. You can read up on Gurren Lagann here and check out a ton of Gurren Lagann images (including the cut Eye Catches) here. Unfortunately this is set to hit as big as Evangelion, and be ruined by a shitty fan base shortly there after. read more

ArtsNow.com: Shirt Review Part 1

The other week on /m/ a link to ArtsNow.com appeared along with a few nifty coupons. Taking the opportunity I ‘designed’ a few shirts and placed an order. A week and a half later a bag arrived on my doorstop, a customs declared gift, complete with return address to a random Hong Kong P.O. box. This is the story of those shirts…

About the Designs

For the designs I used some nice vectors with transparent backgrounds. If you’re interested…
