Super Dimension Fortress Macross, the original Macross anime, is sure a classic of anime. But it has its share of issues, too, that make it not quite make my top 30. To be honest, I barely watched any of the episodes past 27 for this review, because that’s where the story basically ends. I’ve seen the rest of the episodes, too, don’t get me wrong, but they’re hardly worth mentioning. I think I covered the penultimate episode in a Christmas video I did years ago. It’s still damn good anime, overall.

Max Factory PLAMAX 1/20 Macross VF-1 Super/Strike Gerwalk Valkyrie – Dry Fit Review
Welcome to my dry fit review of the Max Factory minimum factory 1/20 PLAMAX MF-25 VF-1 Super/Strike Gerwalk Valkyrie. Just rolls off the tongue doesn’t it?
In simpler language, this is a 1/20 scale Macross VF-1 kit from Max Factory. It comes with the Super Strike package and is limited to Gerwalk mode. No transforming here. Oh, and it’s fucking huge. It’s about 20″ tall, amost 28″ deep, and up to 28.5″ wide when the wings are extended.
This is a dry fit review, as in everything is put together without glue. And, subsequently, held together with tape. Now unlike Mecanicore’s Deep Striker kit, the tape isn’t a bad thing. The kit is designed to require glue to hold everything in place. It’s in the manual over and over again. Thus I can’t really complain about bits being loose. I do have plans to eventually glue and paint this kit… but the goal is to -dramatic drum roll please- wire her up with custom LEDs. Seeing as I’ve never done that before, I’m going to get a practice kit or two under my belt first. But I digress.

For those who’ve been following the show, my Christmas episodes are usually the videos I put the most effort into. This year, lacking a single, sufficiently Christmas-y anime to review itself, I decided to pick a few episodes of different anime that take place on and/or around Christmas. Otaku Evolution Episode 73 – Macross Plus
I’ve really painted myself into a corner this year with Otaku Evolution, covering so many of my favorite anime (like this one), there’s not a whole lot of the best I can review (or at least not a whole lot I can monetize reviews for). But nevertheless, it was great revisiting Macross Plus and confirming that not only does it completely hold up, but it’s still one of the best mecha anime. But what else could it be with that pedigree? Shinichiro Watanabe, Keiko Nobumoto, Ichiro Itano, Yoko Kanno, and for the English dub, Bryan Cranston! Few other anime could satisfy my need for great anime to review for this year’s Action Channel Month quite like this! It’s so crazy good, you’ll hear “Voices”!
